G-Hawk Courtyard
Explore the Geological History of Kansas
Nestled outdoors between Lindley, Ritchie, and Slawson Hall, the G-Hawk Courtyard contains boulders from the last 2 billion years of geologic history from the Proterozoic to Cenozoic ages, all found in the state of Kansas.
Interactive Rock Garden
A stone throw away from Lindley Hall, visitors and students alike can tour the courtyard and harvest a specimen of their own from the Rock Garden. The garden is replenished often with new specimens of rocks, minerals, and fossils from around the world, collected by researchers who brought them to KU to study.
Carefully enter through the gate and “harvest” a specimen or two from the rock garden. The garden is replenished often with new specimens of rocks, minerals, and fossils. Rock garden specimens are added for the public to harvest after they are no longer needed for research or teaching. The materials in the garden come from around the world, where they have been collected by researchers who brought them to KU for study.
